Dr. Ruby Malva was born in Mumbai, India and received a BS at age 18. She studied medicine in Munich, Germany and did her pediatric training at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. She then came to the US to pursue a fellowship in Endocrinology under Dr. Maria New at Cornell University. After the fellowship, she moved to Queens, NY, and has been in solo pediatric practice since 1972.
Dr. Malva is proud of being nominated to run for the National Nominating Committee. She was President of the Queens Pediatric Society and was the CATCH Facilitator for Queens before becoming involved at the Chapter level.
Dr. Malva was elected Treasurer, then became Vice President and went on to become the President of Chapter 2, District II, which includes Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk. Up until now, Dr. Malva was the only female president elected! Under Dr. Malva’s leadership, Chapter 2 received the National Chapter Excellence Award. Dr. Malva has worked at the national level to develop a Chapter Membership Handbook.
There are several very active committees in the Chapter in which over 140 pediatricians are involved, most of them being solo practitioners. The national Academy has emulated some of her committee ideas, such as the Speaker’s Bureau Committee and the Practice Advisory Committee.
Currently, Dr. Malva is the Vice President of the Medical Staff Society of New York Hospital of Queens.
